Tradie Tax Q&A

How much can tradies claim without receipts?

If total work-related expense claims are $300 or less, full written evidence may not be required, but you still need to show how you worked out the amount.

The $300 threshold

The $300 threshold applies to total work-related expense claims, not every single category. Once total claims exceed $300, written evidence is generally required for all work-related claims unless a specific exception applies.

No receipt does not mean no proof

Bank statements, supplier account history, photos, diary notes and calculations can help, but receipts or invoices are stronger. Be conservative when records are weak.

Common tradie examples

Small gloves, sunscreen, minor tools and laundry notes may be low-record items, but expensive tools, vehicle costs and phone/internet percentages need better evidence.

Where to check it in TradieCalc

Use the claim risk panel after entering deductions. It tells you when total claims are over $300.
